A resource for people who take preaching seriously.
How To Build A Sermon exists for one reason: to give preachers, pastors, evangelists, and teachers practical, straightforward help with preaching. No denominational bias. No filler. No pretending the work is easier than it is.
Why this site exists
Most people who preach were never formally trained to do it. A bivocational pastor, a lay leader filling in, a youth worker handed twenty minutes, a church planter preaching to nine people in a rented room. All of them are expected to stand up and say something true, clear, and useful.
Meanwhile, most preaching material lands in one of two ditches: academic homiletics written for a classroom, or inspirational content that never tells you what to do on Tuesday afternoon when the outline will not come together.
This site sits in the gap. It is written the way an experienced preacher talks to a younger one over coffee: here is what actually works, here is what to skip, here is the part nobody warned you about.
What we hold to
Practical over theoretical
Every article should give you something you can use before next Sunday. If it cannot change how you prepare or how you deliver, it does not get published.
No denominational axe
Preachers across traditions face the same problems: the blank page, the clock, the funeral on Thursday, the fear on Saturday night. We stay on craft and leave your convictions to you and your church.
Plain language
No seminary jargon for its own sake, no motivational filler. If a sentence exists to sound impressive, it gets cut.
Honest about the work
Good preaching is mostly unglamorous discipline done every week. We would rather tell you that than sell you a shortcut.
Who it is for
Senior pastors and associate pastors. Bivocational and part-time ministers. Evangelists and itinerant preachers. Lay preachers, youth leaders, small group teachers, chaplains, and anyone who has ever been handed a microphone and a passage and told to go. If you have to preach or teach, this is for you.
